The Epsom Approach

At Epsom College Tokyo, education is designed to extend beyond academic achievement alone. Our Prep School combines British academic rigour with enquiry based learning, wellbeing, creativity, and character development, ensuring students grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence from an early age.

Distinctive elements of the Prep School experience include:

  • Enquiry and Ikigai inspired learning
  • Enhanced wellbeing and pastoral education
  • Specialist teaching across key subjects
  • Japanese language and global perspectives
  • Strong reading and communication culture
  • Co-curricular enrichment and movement
  • A structured pathway within the Epsom family of schools

This carefully balanced approach ensures students are prepared not only for future academic success, but for meaningful and purposeful lives in a global environment.

Beyond the Classroom (CCAs)

Learning continues beyond the classroom through a carefully balanced programme of co-curricular activities, movement, enquiry, wellbeing, and creative exploration.

Students are encouraged to discover new interests, develop resilience and collaboration, and build confidence through experiences that support both personal growth and academic development.

The extended school day and day boarding structure also provide opportunities for guided reading, enrichment, independent learning, and meaningful engagement within a well supported environment.

Homework

At Epsom, we believe homework is approached with balance and purpose. While students are given regular tasks, these are carefully managed to remain appropriate and manageable, ensuring time for rest, family, and wider interests.

A strong emphasis is placed on reading, which underpins all areas of learning. Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of texts, developing not only fluency and comprehension, but also curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine enjoyment of reading.

As students progress through the Prep School, homework gradually supports the development of independence, organisation, and responsibility, preparing them for the expectations of the next stage of their education.

Preparing for the Next Stage

Every stage of the Prep School journey is intentionally designed to prepare students for future progression within the Epsom pathway.

By combining academic foundations with character development, wellbeing, enquiry, and independence, students leave the Prep School ready for the next stage of their education with confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of purpose.
